Description: Seafloor bathymetry for the Gulf of Mexico - Florida Escarpment. This bathymetry grid is the Copyright of the University of New Hampshire and its Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping/Joint Hydrographic Center - (c) 2007 The University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH 03824This Data was NOT produced for Navigation, has NOT been certified by UNH/CCOM-JHC, and must NOT be used in any form or manner for Navigation. Please see the following Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping's (CCOM) cruise report for full information on this data:• http://www.ccom-jhc.unh.edu/publications/Gardner_03_cruise_report_DA0301.pdfThe National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), on behalf of the United States Government, has a requirement to carry out surveys of specific regions on the continental margin (slope and rise) in order to obtain bathymetric data. These data are required to support any potential claim for extended jurisdiction by the United States under United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) Article 76. The requirement is for the collection and processing of full-coverage multibeam sonar data in water depths of approximately 1000 to 5000 m in order to precisely define the location of the 2500-m isobath and the "foot of the slope" as defined under UNCLOS Article 76. As part of their NOAA-funded research program, University of New Hampshire (UNH) researchers at the CCOM oversaw data acquisition, processing and archiving of the data collected during the cruise. The bathymetric grid was generated from data which were first reduced for position, elevation, orientation, water-column sound-speed and refraction effects. All depths are reported in meters. Information about UNH Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping field activity can be found online at http://ccom.unh.edu/unclos/reports.htm.Please visit the CCOM’s Law of the Sea Downloads Webpage (http://ccom.unh.edu/theme/law-sea/law-of-the-sea-data)for download of this data as a ESRI grid, Fledermaus SD file, or ASCII file.
